Building upon the material presented and knowledge constructed in the first semester of this course, the fall semester will continue to introduce students to Language and communication barriers. The fall semester of this course will focus primarily on a second perspective from which Language and communication barriers may be viewed. This perspective is that of physical limitation and handicap. These may range from environmental factors to individual physical disabilities such as dyslexia, specific Language disorders, hearing impairment or deafness. Multiple forms of physical disability Language disorder will be explored including expressive versus receptive disorders, developmental or late onset disorder, and more. Through this course, students will acquire knowledge about the multitude of factors that are required for successful communication by examining the various avenues through which communication may be impeded.
